The Olde Main Street District Design Plan is the framework for the organization. In the design plan five guiding principles were defined. They are:
- Address parking
- Improve business identity
- Increase green space
- Improve pedestrian comfort and safety
- Achieve visual continuity
A checklist of short, medium and long-range implementation steps was included in the design plan.
Background: On September 11, 2001 the organization’s board of directors adopted its design plan and the plan has been a key tool over the last several years. By 2002 the organization had its framework in place ready to restore the downtown area that had deteriorated over the last 20 to 30 years. The organization’s volunteer committees were charged with carrying out the design plan. In 2007 a committee will be formed to review and make recommendations to update the plan.
